THE LONDON LOOK: Fashion and Style
Fashion is more than just the clothes we wear. It is a complex visual and sensory language that, once we learn to read it, can reveal the secrets of the times, places and cultures from which it emerges. London has a contradictory fashion identity: famous for both tradition and cutting-edge street style. We will trace the story of London’s style from its history as a stage for the Regency Dandy to its place as a world fashion capital today.
Includes several field trips to galleries and other places of interest.

The Novel as Social History
We consider the social and cultural history of the novel by exploring the background information we are absorbing unwittingly, which is not the main theme, but which leads us into a deeper and clearer understanding of period, place, subject, time and general minutiae of everyday life. As novel extracts are read out, we discuss what exciting 'other' information we are discovering.
